The Stepmother

The Stepmother is the final hat from my HNC collection, “A Piece of my Heart,” a project about the loss of my home in Thailand. Although starting from sadness, there’s tremendous joy in the piece and really celebrates my love of my other home. It uses the fisherman’s technique of making nets; my hat uses knotted strips of sinamay and plays with notions of ‘widows veiling’ a long-used and traditional millinery material.
